black mantled tamarin

Scientific Name: Saguinus Nigricollis

Lifespan: Black Mantled Tamarins can live up to 15 years.

Weight and Size: Males weigh about 1.4 oz while females weigh 1.3 oz. Tamarins are about 8-11 inches in size.

Location: North Eastern Peru

Tamarins west of Iquitos are different than the tamarins that live in the east. West side tamarins blackish grey olive forequarters while the lower half is olive yellow. Tail is almost the length of the body.

Habitat: Prefer mature forests as well as dense secondary tropical rainforests. Those found on the outside of the forest are located around 900 meters.

Reproduction: Only the dominant female of the group breeds during breeding season.
